A Spooky Flashback: The Transfiguration Spell

A Spooky Flashback: The Transfiguration Spell

Hello everyone, and happy October!

It's mid-fall, the air is officially crisp, and the spooky spirit of Halloween is fully in the air. This time of year always gets me thinking about my Halloween creations from years past, and today, I wanted to share one that remains a personal favorite: my "Transfiguration Spell" illustration.

For those who have followed my work, you might know of my fondness for adding wings to creatures – there's just something so enchanting about the fusion of different forms! This particular piece features a little witch, brimming with youthful confidence, practicing her magic deep within a shadowy forest. Far from the watchful eyes of her teachers, she perches triumphantly on a spell book that floats effortlessly beneath her, a testament to her burgeoning power.

The focus of her spell? A rather ambitious double transfiguration! Under the silvery glow of a full moon, she has not only transformed herself into a magnificent black feline with long, flowing fur, but she has also gifted herself a pair of impressive, bat-like wings. It's a moment of pure magical success, a young witch reveling in her accomplished feat.

"Transfiguration Spell" was created using acrylic inks on an 11x14 Trekell panel. I love the vibrancy and fluidity that acrylic inks offer, allowing for rich, deep blacks in the cat's fur and the atmospheric hues of the moonlit forest. The smooth surface of the Trekell panel provides a wonderful base for layering the inks and capturing the details of the spell book and the witch-turned-cat's triumphant expression.

Creating this piece was such a joy, from imagining the secret magical practice to bringing the winged feline to life. It perfectly blends my love for fantasy creatures and the spirit of Halloween. Perhaps this story will spark some inspiration for your own dark or mysterious creative endeavors this month!

What are some of your favorite magical transformations or creatures? I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below! Also, if this piece would look perfect on your wall this Halloween, original and prints are available in the shop.

Until next time, keep creating!
